Barcelona were like Muhammad Ali in the Champions League final, says Dani Alves

The Brazilian has looked back on the famous win

Champions League final - “Barcelona v Juventus”

Dani Alves has been reminiscing about the 2015 Champions League final win over Juventus that took place exactly five years ago in Berlin.

Barcelona ran out 3-1 winners to seal their fifth European Cup and complete the treble, and the Brazilian feels his side were simply unstoppable against the Turin giants.

“We were up against very physical opponents and we knew we had to win by having the ball. It does not matter how strong your opponents is if you have them chasing after the ball so that they get tired.

“The moment they let their guard down is the moment to attack. We were like Muhammad Ali: we floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee. I think we were deserving winners of the final and we celebrated a lot as we had repeated the treble.”

Alves also spoke about how “vital” Ivan Rakitic’s early goal was, the Croatian scored after four minutes, and said Barca “never stopped being a team” even when Alvaro Morata equalised for Juve.
