Sergino Dest is expected to miss Tuesday’s Champions League opener against Bayern Munich after suffering a sprained ankle on international duty with the USMNT.

Barcelona offered an update on the right-back’s fitness on Wednesday.

“Tests conducted this Wednesday by the FC Barcelona Medical Services have revealed that Sergiño Dest has sprained his right ankle. He picked up the injury playing for the United States against Canada in Nashville last September 5 and is currently unfit to play.”

It had initially been reported that Dest’s injury wasn’t too serious but it’s now being claimed he will not be fit enough to play against Bayern.

Catalunya Radio reckon that Dest definitely won’t make it which means it’s likely that either Sergi Roberto or Oscar Mingueza will come into the team.

There are also a few concerns about Jordi Alba’s fitness ahead of the match. The left-back is said to have some muscular discomfort and did not feature in Spain’s World Cup qualifier against Kosovo on Wednesday.
