A summer move apparently fell through

Learning of transfer attempts after the fact is almost more interesting in some cases then learning of them during the transfer window. This one is a doozy and quite fascinating.

According to Turkey’s national team manager Mircea Lucescu, Arsenal can be included in the teams that made an offer to Barcelona for the transfer of Arda Turan.

“I spoke to Valverde, Arsenal made Arda an offer,” he said

“Arda was on the verge of joining Arsenal this summer but it did not go through.

“Galatasaray wanted him but it did not happen, same with Monaco. ‘Arda is going through a tough time.’”

Turan pretty clearly had plenty of suitors to grab him from Barcelona over the summer. It remains unclear why Barcelona wouldn’t want to offload a 30-year-old role player when big teams with large wallets still want him.

It’ll be interesting to monitor the reports regarding Turan and if this continues in January when the transfer window reopens.
