The Blaugrana have swatted that claim down

Tottenham Hotspur right-back Serge Aurier has claimed that he was in negotiations with Barcelona, but that his reputation stopped a potential move.

“We will see what happens in my future. I think my reputation made four or five big European sides afraid. I was negotiating with Barcelona, very advanced negotiations. And Barcelona's people were not sure if I came here things would be different."

However, Barcelona have reportedly come out and said that it never even got that far. Aurier and his representative wanted the meeting, but it never took place.

"We never sat down with the player or his representative. They wanted to sit down with us, but we never did anything."

What makes this so interesting is that usually players or their agents will throw out a big club and their own name during the middle of a transfer saga, not after they’ve already moved clubs.

Aurier making claims that Barcelona felt so strongly about that they needed to come out and deny them is pretty fascinating.
