Brazilian midfielder Lucas Lima will be a Barcelona player in January 2018, according to reports in Brazil. Fox Sports Rádio says the player has agreed a deal with the Catalan giants and will sign a pre-contract on July 1st.
Lucas Lima has been linked with moves to Barça for a while, especially due to his relationship with Neymar. The two are close friends and Neymar has always lobbied for the Blaugrana to sign the player. Lucas Lima's contract with Neymar's former club Santos expires in December, and having not signed a new deal, the 26-year-old is able to move to any club for free in January.
Lima is a very dynamic attacking midfielder who excels at making plays from deep positions, and was crucial in building up from the back while at Santos, coming to get the ball from the central defenders and moving the ball all over the pitch with a wide passing range.
It's difficult to say where there's any credit to this report at all given that Brazilian media is just as good as Spanish media when it comes to reporting on transfers, but Lucas Lima has always been a Barça target. The club just wasn't willing to pay big money to sign him, and now that he can come for free in January, maybe Barça will finally do business.
