Lionel Messi has agreed a new contract with Barcelona that will keep him at the club until 2021 with the option of another year, according to Cadena SER.

The Argentine’s current deal expires in summer of 2018 but he has reportedly agreed a three-year extension with the option of a fourth year.

The new deal means Messi will remain at Barcelona until he is 34 or 35, and as he stated earlier, he is keen to finish his career at Camp Nou.

His contract extension also reportedly sees a big rise in his release clause which increases from €250m to €400m, enough to ward off interest from anywhere.

Josep Maria Bartomeu is believed to have handled the negotiations personally with Jorge Messi.

Luis Suarez and Neymar have also renewed until 2021 meaning we should have at least another four years watching Barca’s famous attacking trident in action.

However, we may have to wait for official confirmation as the new deal is not expected to be signed until after June 30, so that it falls into next season’s budget.

But don’t worry folks - Messi is going to be around for some time yet!
