Barcelona have confirmed that Josep Segura has been appointed as the club's new general manager, a newly-created role at Camp Nou.

A statement by the club read: "Josep Segura has been appointed manager of the Sports Area Football FC Barcelona.

"With the creation of this new position, Josep Segura will be the head of the sports management of the entire area of football. Thus Club equates structures of all professional sports.

"Robert Fernández remains as secretary first team of FC Barcelona with the same responsibilities hitherto assumed."

So what will Segura do in his new role? That's a good question, although Barca have promised they will explain their new structure in the coming days.

According to ESPN, Segura will continue to work with the academy but will also "be in charge of the first team's transfer activity" - although as explained above Robert Fernandez's role remains unchanged.

Jordi Cruyff was also reportedly Barcelona's first choice for the new post before he opted to continue with Maccabi Tel Aviv, leading Barca to move for Segura instead.

It's certainly an interesting move, and it looks as though we will learn more later this week.
