Like it or not the Paulinho to Barcelona rumors continue to swirl with speculation in Spain claiming the club are ready to return with an improved bid for the Brazilian.
Guangzhou Evergrande have already confirmed they have rejected one bid from Barca for the 28-year-old, but he has not given up hope of a move to Camp Nou.
"I'm not a hypocrite and I'm a transparent person. I think about Barca," he told Brazilian publication Band.
"The clause in my contract is €40m and I believe Barca offered €20m and that Guangzhou rejected the offer.
"My agent told me there are new conversations. The majority of players don't ever speak until something happens but I can confirm that the interest is real.
"What I know is that there's a formal offer and the president of Barcelona spoke with the directors, although there wasn't an agreement.
"It's possible that I will play at Barcelona among a number of star players. I could become part of a club full of stars.
"There will still be conversations. There's the possibility that there will be an agreement between the clubs and if that's what I want, it will happen."
And crazy as it still sounds, it's quite possible Barca will return with a larger bid, particularly after the club's move for Marco Verratti now looks highly unlikely following the midfielder's latest comments.
Nice manager Lucien Favre has also dismissed claims Jean Michael Seri could leave this summer, telling Le 10 Sport: "He is staying. That's definitive. We've already lost four starting XI players. That's enough."
As far as midfield targets go, Barca are rapidly running out of options, could the unthinkable really be about to happen?
