The rumors are simply not true, apparently

Agent Jorge Mendes has played down rumours Barcelona are attempting to bring in Angel Di Maria from Paris Saint-Germain before the close of the transfer window.

Robert Fernandez revealed yesterday the club are hoping to sign one or two more players before Thursday’s deadline, following the capture of Ousmane Dembele.

Di Maria and Philippe Coutinho have been the players most frequently linked with Barca in recent days with speculation Mendes could act as a middleman in a deal for his former client Di Maria.

However, the agent who reportedly met with Barcelona for transfer talks recently denied this was the case.

Asked by journalists about the Argentine as he prepared to depart Barcelona he told Marca: "It is not true what you are publishing."

So if not Di Maria, then who was Mendes talking to Barcelona about? Well, the obvious answer seems to be Andre Gomes, who is represented by Mendes.

Reports have suggested that Gomes will head to Juventus this summer, with Barca willing to sell after an underwhelming first season at Camp Nou.
