It’s the final day of the transfer window in Spain and to celebrate Spanish radio station Cope has served up a brand new rumor for us all.

Apparently, Barcelona will turn to Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil as an alternative to Philippe Coutinho who looks destined to remain at Anfield, despite handing in a transfer request.

The report states Arsenal want €60 million for the Germany international, who is into the final year of his contract with the Gunners, and yet to extend his current deal.

Perhaps tellingly, there has been precious little speculation surrounding Ozil all summer, with a distinct lack of interest in his services, despite him coming to the end of his Arsenal contract.

The former Real Madrid man frequently comes in for criticism at Arsenal for a perceived lack of effort and was branded a “liability” by Steven Gerrard after the Gunners’ recent 1-0 defeat to Stoke City.

How much truth there is in the rumor remains to be seen, although any possible move is bound to be complicated by the fact that Ozil is currently on international duty with Germany who face Czech Republic in World Cup qualifying tonight.
