The future of Lionel Messi is the subject of fresh speculation after a report that the Argentine will delay signing his new contract and will instead wait until the end of the year.

According to Spanish radio station Onda Cero, the club legend will wait, and let’s not forget his contract expires next summer and he will be free to talk to clubs from January.

The news follows straight on from today’s press conference with Albert Soler and Robert Fernandez where it was claimed the contract would be signed “soon”.

Of course that in turn follows on from news in July when Josep Maria Bartomeu claimed Messi had renewed his contract until 2021. Yet it is still awaiting his signature.

Of course we don’t know if the report is true, but given the current situation surrounding the club, it would be no surprise if Messi did delay.

Perhaps he simply wants to wait and see what will happens? Perhaps he will delay in order to put pressure on the board? Who knows? But, if he does, it’s yet another huge problem the club have to fix.
