Agusti Benedito has accused Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu of lying about Lionel Messi’s new contract and says it is invalid without the player’s signature.
Bartomeu has said Messi is “already playing under his new contract” as his father has signed the extension, even though the player himself has not.
However, Benedito says the deal is not valid without Messi’s signature and wants the president to explain the situation.
"Bartomeu's said that the contract is signed and it's just lacking the protocol. That contract, without Leo's signature, is not valid.
“Even though his father has signed, it needs the player's signature. This doesn't help with getting it signed. It's possible that Bartomeu's presence is the main obstacle [for getting it signed].
“I hope that the president explains everything truthfully. It's not the first time he's lied."
Benedito also said that he now has 10,715 signatures for his vote of no confidence, he still needs 16,570 by September 27th (or October 2nd according to Benedito).
