Ousmane Dembele has given an interesting interview to Sport in which he has discussed a range of topics including his love for all things Barcelona.
He talked of his admiration for Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi and also explained why he did not move to Camp Nou last summer, instead opting for Borussia Dortmund.
When asked why he didn’t sign for Barca he replied: “Because I'd been a professional at Rennes for just six months. Can you imagine? Just six months!
“[Was it too soon?] Of course. I wanted to learn, play Champions League games, know what that competition was, to play a whole season with a big team, playing regularly, developing...”
Dembele also said that he would not have been able play regularly last season at Barcelona due to the presence in the squad of Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.
“I would have learned a lot in training but it would have halted my progression,” he added.
“Luckily Barcelona have come back for a second time and this time I could not let the train pass.”
Dembele also talks about how he is working hard to get back up to full fitness, having skipped training as he waited for the transfer to go through.
Hopefully, he will be in top shape when La Liga resumes, with Espanyol the next visitors to Camp Nou on September 9, and we can see him in action for the Blaugrana for the first time.
