Rafinha’s father Mazinho has explained why the midfielder is set to leave Barcelona for Inter Milan this winter.

The Brazilian has finally returned from a lengthy injury lay-off but now seems set to spend the rest of the season at San Siro.

Reports have claimed Barca will loan Rafinha to Inter with an option to buy, and Mazinho says his son just wants to get back to playing after a tough time out.

“Rafinha wants to join Inter because he simply wants to play,” he said.

“It’s very difficult to get into the Barcelona side as there are so many players. He also had the bad luck of getting that knee injury over the last two years.

“He just wants to play, feel happy and do what he loves at an excellent club like Inter.

“Rafinha has a contract with Barcelona until 2020. We’re drawing up a pre-contract with Inter until 2021.”

Rafinha is expected to complete his move to Inter over the weekend or early next week and will become the second player to leave Barca this winter, after Arda Turan.
