Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak has claimed Lionel Messi turned down a huge offer to move to the Premier League club.
Al Mubarak was speaking at a media conference where he was asked about which player he would have loved to have signed.
Unsurprisingly Messi’s name came up, and the Manchester City man explained how the club had tried to lure him to England.
“We asked [Pep] Guardiola to talk to him. We offered him triple the salary he has at Barcelona, but he never accepted it.”

Messi signed a new contract at Barcelona last year, and reports in Spain have claimed the club want him to extend even further.
