The January transfer window is inching closer which means the transfer rumors are starting to hot up, and Monday brings news of Barcelona’s search for a new No.9.
According to Sport, the Spanish champions are considering either Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek or Lille’s Nicolas Pepe.
We’re not talking a direct replacement for Luis Suarez yet, but more like a young player who can come in and bring a bit more strength in depth to the position.
Piatek is a man in-form for Genoa. He has nine goals in seven Serie A appearances but he won’t come cheap. The report reckons Barca will need to splash out €50m-€60m if they are to land the 23-year-old.
And then there’s Pepe who Barcelona have already been sniffing around, according to Lille president Gerard Lopez.
Pepe has also started the season in some pretty tasty form. He has six goals and four assists in nine Ligue 1 outings. The Lille man is considered to be more versatile and at €30m is a far cheaper option than Piatek.
