Quique Setien responds to rumors he could replace Ernesto Valverde at Barcelona

Real Betis boss Quique Setien has responded to speculation he could be a candidate to replace Ernesto Valverde at Barcelona.

Valverde is out of contract at the end of the season, although there is an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

It’s unclear currently if he will stay at the Camp Nou, and Setien was giving little away when the subject was broached.

“It is the same when I was linked to the Spanish national team, I must speak out about this.

“I think Barcelona has a great coach, and that is Ernesto Valverde, you have to respect him and the job he is doing.

“My only thought now is about beating Valladolid.”

Setien guided Betis to a sixth-placed finish last season and a place in the Europa League in his first full campaign in charge. The team are currently in eighth place in La Liga.
