Barcelona are attempting to add some depth to their full-back positions. With Jordi Alba turning 30 next year the club need to look to the future at left-back.
They are targeting Lyon’s 23-year old left-back Ferland Mendy, according to Mundo Deportivo. The move would apparently be to put some sort of pressure on Alba as he progresses into the latter half of his career.
Mendy has played in nine games for Lyon this season and has impressed enough to catch the eye of Barcelona scouts. The theme of Barcelona’s recent transfer rumors and targets has mostly been to backup and bolster the aging starting lineup that Barcelona has been rolling out for some time.
Whether or not Mendy comes over we likely won’t know for some time, but it is another look into Barcelona’s thought process on roster improvement.
