Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman spoke about his international player Matthijs de Ligt this week.

The Dutch manager said that be believes the Barcelona target will be leaving his current club soon.

The destination remains unknown but Barcelona have expressed interest in the player and could have a shot at him.

“It is obvious a player of the level of Matthijs will move into a higher league soon,” he said.

“I have talked about him a lot and the truth is he should be playing at a much higher level, he has the ability to make it to the very top in football.

“He made his debut in the Champions League group stage and then his next game was on a plastic pitch away against Excelsior, that is not something that is sustainable.

“Besides, the pace of the Eredivisie is not as high.”
