Marc Overmars has admitted Ajax will find it difficult to keep hold of their star players, who have been attracting attention from around Europe.

Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong have both been linked with moves away this season, and Barcelona are said to be keen on both players.

Sporting director Overmars was talking at a meeting of the club’s shareholders and warned they will probably lose their top stars.

“It will be difficult to retain these players who are in the newspapers every day because of the interest of other clubs,” he said.

”Last year we managed to keep the group together and we only sold [Justin] Kluivert, but it won’t be possible to keep this group of talented players together for the coming years.”

There seems no chance of either player moving in January, but next summer should be really interesting with a host of clubs reportedly interested in the duo.
