Barcelona target Frenkie de Jong has been described as a bit of a mix between former midfielders Deco and Xavi, by the club’s former assistant coach Henk ten Cate.
Rarely a week goes by without De Jong’s name being mentioned alongside Barcelona’s, although the latest speculation claims Manchester City are set to snap him up.
Ten Cate has been talking about the 21-year-old and reckons there are similarities with former Barcelona stars.
“It cannot be compared, De Jong can be a mixture of Deco and Xavi, but he is De Jong,” he said.
“It is always difficult to compare players. Both Xavi and Deco were from another planet, De Jong has the talent, but he must still prove it.”

The futures of De Jong and Ajax team-mate Matthjis de Ligt look set to dominate the headlines for the rest of the season.
Ten Cate offered his view on the duo and reckons they will come to the Camp Nou.
“My opinion is that Barça will sign them but transfer them to another club so that they can get experience at the highest level, but not at Barca,” he said. “They are players with a lot of quality but to grow they need to play, not be on the bench.
“I think that with their age they are players who need to play every week and the chances of playing at Barca are not so great. When someone arrives at Barca they have to be ready.”
Marc Overmars has admitted Ajax will find it difficult to keep hold of their top stars with Europe’s top clubs starting to circle the talented duo.
