According to Catalan radio station RAC1, Barcelona are in the process of finalizing a loan deal for Valencia defender Jeison Murillo. The deal would be a good one for Barcelona who’ve been looking for additions to their defensive core after injuries to Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen.

Murillo has had some injury problems over the last 12 months and only started 16 games in the league. Being only 26-years-old Murillo could be a great prospect for Barcelona should he remain healthy.

The main reason Barcelona seem to be targeting Murillo is that they can’t seem to get a handle on Ajax’s Matthjis de Ligt in the January transfer window. They really need some depth as a stopgap until they can grab a top tier player like they want. Murillo might be that stopgap.
