Philippe Coutinho has cleared up a bit of confusion surrounding his passport status by saying he can acquire a Portuguese passport through his wife Aine.

The Brazilian is currently understood to be one of Barcelona’s three non-EU spots in the squad, alongside Paulinho and Yerry Mina.

However, it appears that Coutinho could be about to free up a space: “Yes, I can get community through my wife,” he told Mundo Deportivo.

If that proves correct it could be good news for Barcelona’s pursuit of Gremio which has stalled recently, the Brazilian club have confirmed.

Gremio have said that talks have stopped and that they want Arthur to stay with them until December of this year.

It’s unclear why negotiations have stalled, but Coutinho’s comments could be good news for their pursuit of Arthur.
