Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred has been a regular in the gossip columns in recent weeks and months with a move to Manchester City or Manchester United mooted.

However, Mundo Deportivo reckon that Barcelona could still be in the race to land the Brazilian and that they’ve been scouting the 25-year-old and received some good reports.

Fred has been named in Brazil’s World Cup so will link with up Barcelona duo Paulinho and Philippe Coutinho in Russia this summer.

Barcelona reckon that Fred is a good option and could help give Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic a bit of rest next season.

The main problem seems to be that Manchester City are well-placed to sign Fred and have already put a big offer of €50.2 million on the table. That deal remains unsigned and speculation in the UK has previously suggested City had given up on Fred.

Yet having said that MD also reckon that Fred is really only worth €30-32m although that might go up if a club like Barcelona were to come in for him.

Fred is contracted to Shakhtar until 2023 and it definitely sounds like he could be off this summer - the only question is where?
