Frenkie De Jong was back in action on Friday as Ajax lost a pre-season friendly match to Anderlecht 3-1.

After the game the midfielder spoke to Dutch TV station AT5 and unsurprisingly was asked about his future and a possible move to Barcelona.

He joked around a bit but admitted there was interest in his services. When asked if he might move to Barcelona he answered “You’ll have to ask Overmars.”

The midfielder was pressed a bit further and ended up saying he expects to stay where he is for now at least: “I can not promise that, of course. But as it stands now. I think I will stay with Ajax this season.”

Speculation has claimed De Jong remains a top Barcelona target but that Ajax are in absolutely no rush to sell the 21-year-old.

Some reports have even claimed that Barcelona want to agree a deal that would allow De Jong to stay at Ajax for one more season before making the move to Camp Nou in 2019.
