Barcelona’s hunt for a new midfielder has already occupied dozens of headlines this summer already, and now it seems we can add Dani Parejo to the long list of reported targets.
According to AS, Ernesto Valverde asked if the club could bring him in last summer and remains a big fan of the Valencia man.
The report claims that Parejo is waiting for a contract renewal from Valencia which has not arrived yet. His current deal runs until the end of June 2020
If Barcelona were to make a move they would have to pay his release clause which stands at a reported €50 million. However, they might try to get that fee down by offering a player as part of the deal.
Tempting Parejo away from Valencia may also prove a tough task. He was linked with a move to the Camp Nou last summer and spoke about how much he owed Valencia.
“If Barcelona want a player then they come, they pay the release clause and if the player wants to leave then he does,” he said at the time.
“I’ve been with Valencia almost all my career and owe a lot to the club and the city. I cannot behave poorly with the club that has given me almost everything in my footballing life.
“If I do have to leave here one day then I hope it will be a long time away.”

Hardly the words of a man who is looking to leave Valencia any time soon.
