Guangzhou Evergrande confirmed on their official website on Sunday they have re-signed midfielder Paulinho from Barcelona.

The Brazilian admitted after his team’s elimination from the World Cup that he had offers to leave Barcelona after just one season and was mulling it over.

There’s been no official word from Barcelona yet but apparently Paulinho returns to China on a one-year loan deal with a purchase option.

Paulinho joined Barca in a deal worth €40 million last summer and went on to prove many of his critics wrong by helping the club win the double, contributing nine goals and two assists.

His departure is a bit of a surprise after just one season but seems to have come about due to a shortage of non-EU spots with Arthur set to arrive from Gremio imminently.
