According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are readying talks with Ernesto Valverde for a contract extension. Valverde has entered the final season of his contract and Barcelona seem to be pleased with his success thus far. They could decide to bring him back for one more year on an option, then re-evaluate the longer term future after that.

Or Barcelona could be completely happy with what they see and wish to lock things down for good. The fate of the club in the Champions League could be the catalyst behind the length of another contract, although the report claims that results won’t have a massive impact on the extension.

Valverde has divided opinion in his short time in charge, but the club would do well to keep him. Champions League success or not, the boss has been stable for the club and won the Double in his first season.

In the craziness and short-termism that is modern football, Barcelona can avoid adding to the noise by offering Valverde a contract extension.
