Frenkie de Jong has fuelled more speculation over his future with an interview with Ajax’s television channel where he admitted he’d like to play with Lionel Messi.

The Dutch starlet has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona all summer, and you can expect plenty more of that after his latest comments.

“If you end up at a superior club, you will play with world class players all over the pitch,” he said.

“But for me, honestly, I would like to play with Messi one day.”

Reports surrounding De Jong’s future simply refuse to go away despite the transfer window being closed, and the midfielder insisting he’ll stay for another season.

Just in the last few days Sport have reported he’s an “absolute priority” for Barcelona, Mundo Deportivo have claimed he’s worried he’s not heard from Barca for a while and Marca have claimed Barcelona are his favoured destination.
