Barcelona are reportedly targeting Olivier Giroud this winter. With Chelsea getting close to a loan deal for Gonzalo Higuaín, their need for Giroud seems to be ending. The Frenchman has carried the Blues striker position for some time while Alvaro Mortata goes through whatever he’s going through.
Given the Blues soon-to-be third striker in Higuaín, Giroud seems to be the odd man out. His contract ends at the end of this season, and Chelsea have now replaced his veteran presence.
Giroud would be a great option for Barcelona. He’s a proven player in big situations and has the veteran experience to be a perfect backup for Luis Suarez. While he doesn’t solve their long-term needs at the striker position, he could be a great stopgap and provide some much-needed depth on the offensive end of the pitch.
