River Plate sporting director Enzo Francescoli has responded to rumors Marcelo Gallardo could replace Ernesto Valverde in the Camp Nou hotseat.
Valverde has come under pressure after some poor results and performances in 2019-20, leading to speculation Barcelona could decide to say goodbye to the 55-year-old.
Gallardo’s name has cropped up as a possible replacement, but Francescoli has played down the speculation for now.
“I know what everyone is reading and I am glad for the size of the club that is watching him, but there is nothing true. Every year Gallardo makes an evaluation in December and then makes the decision to continue, but that is very personal of him and his work group. That’s why you have to let things happen.
“Likewise, you have to be prepared to face the decision you are going to make. It happened when a few years ago Ramón (Díaz) told us that he had to leave. I am not thinking about what will happen in a couple of months, because it is not even my decision.”

Meanwhile, the latest reports on Valverde suggest he retains the club’s support for now but patience is wearing thin, and if performances do not improve his time at the club may finally be up.
