Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has said his club are convinced that Carles Alena’s loan move to Real Betis will be a step forward in the midfielder’s career.

The Spanish champions announced on Saturday they have agreed a deal for the 21-year-old to spend the rest of the season with Rubi’s men after struggling for game time at Camp Nou.

Bartomeu has wished Alena success at the Benito Villamarín Stadium in a post on Twitter.

Alena has made just three starts for Barcelona this season and was in the starting XI for the team’s final match of 2019 against Alaves at the Camp Nou.

He will now be aiming to feature regularly for Los Verdiblancos who finished the year down in 13th place in the table.
