Matthijs de Ligt has long been rumored to be on his way to Barcelona. The Ajax defender’s future has been in the papers as somewhat of a forgone conclusion.

While other European teams have gotten somewhat involved, like Juventus, there have been plenty of rumors that De Ligt wants to join Frenkie de Jong at Barcelona this summer.

Andre Onana, Ajax keeper, has confirmed that De Ligt wants to head to Barcelona.

In a post-match interview after Ajax’s loss to Real Madrid midweek, Onana spoke candidly about his team-mate’s wishes.

“Like De Jong, he also wants to go there. I have spoken to both of them about this”

De Ligt is a wanted figure by other clubs in European football, so Barcelona will need to impress Ajax with a transfer fee even though De Ligt wishes to move to the Camp Nou.
