Jordi Alba spoke about manager Ernesto Valverde after Sunday’s 2-0 win over Getafe at the Camp Nou and says he hopes he stays on at Barcelona.

The 55-year-old has come under pressure after overseeing a disastrous defeat in the Champions League for the second season running but he has Alba’s backing.

“We’re delighted with Valverde,” he said. “Before Anfield, we were the best team in the world and then one day after no one is worth anything, we’re old and we need to bring in replacements... I hope the boss continues. He’s given me life.”

Meanwhile, Valverde was asked about his future after the game and said he has not considered stepping down from his position.

The boss is on course to win a league and cup double for the second season in a row, but his achievements have been marred by the club’s embarrassing failures in Europe.
