According to Mundo Deportivo’s Francesc Aguilar, it’s all about agreeing a deal, as Barcelona want to avoid paying his release clause.
While Griezmann has a release clause of 120 million euros, Barcelona may opt to reach an agreement with the club instead, to avoid having to go through the player himself having to deposit his clause. Barcelona reportedly will go for a 100 million fee plus 20 million in easily attainable add-ons.
The club is sure that Griezmann will not spurn them the way he did last summer, according to Aguilar. They reportedly have the player’s commitment, from the player himself as well as from his entourage, with Éric Abidal serving as a go-between.
Apparently, Barcelona had looked at other options like Luka Jović (Eintracht Frankfurt) and Rodrigo (Valencia), but Bartomeu ruled them out in favor of Griezmann.
