According to Cadena SER, Ernesto Valverde is completely willing to sell Ivan Rakitic this summer. The midfielder has been between leaving and staying for some time, with each report seemingly flop flopping the narrative of Rakitic’s destination.
Last summer, the deal to let Rakitic go was almost completed, and it was decided it wasn’t worth it. The move was correct, because Barcelona needed his presence with a lack of midfield depth.
If Valverde is indeed green lighting a move to sell Rakitic this summer, Frenkie de Jong may not be the only midfield star coming in. Barcelona will need someone to help replace the playmaking and consistency that Rakitic brings on a game to game basis. Rakitic is the engine to Barcelona’s offensive scheme when he’s playing well, and selling him would leave a gap.
