Real Betis left-back Junior Firpo has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent days and has spoken about his future in an interview with Marca.

The 22-year-old is also believed to have attracted interest from Real Madrid and was asked if he preferred Los Blancos to the Spanish champions.

“No. I have said that Real Madrid was more attractive to me because my father is from Madrid. This has nothing to do with where I would rather play. Honestly, the team that is most interesting to me right now is Real Betis, where I have been since I was young.

“In principle I have a contract with Betis, I owe it to them because they are a great club who has given me everything. Yet, I’m only thinking about the European Championship and after that we’ll see.”

Junior was on the front page of Sport on Saturday, as the newspaper reported that Barcelona have asked Real Betis about the availability of their full-back.

However, the defender did not seem aware of the report. He was asked if there would be a “war” with his dad if he signed for Barca and said: “Well I hadn’t heard about this story when I woke up and then I got on a coach, so we’ll see. I don’t know.”

Junior is part of the Spain Under-21 squad who will take part in the European Championship in Italy this summer.
