FC Barcelona are prioritizing the signing of two star forwards, Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain) and Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid), over that of Matthijs de Ligt or a left-back, according to several sources.
According to rumor, De Ligt wanted to sign for Barcelona but ultimately seems destined to join Juventus instead because the Italian club offered him more money. The defender reportedly asked Barcelona to match that offer, but the Catalans stood firm on their proposition. Catalunya Ràdio reports that part of the reason for that is that the club wanted to save their money for a potential Neymar transfer.
Diario SPORT adds that the potential signings of Neymar and Griezmann not only influenced the strategy for trying to sign De Ligt, but also how Barcelona approach trying to get a backup for Jordi Alba. Simply, there won’t be quite as much money left for a left-back if the team goes all out for those two forwards.
Barcelona have reportedly not ruled out Junior Firpo (Real Betis) or Raphael Guerreiro (Borussia Dortmund) but one short-term option remains on the table: Filipe Luís. The left-back could be signed for a free transfer after leaving Atlético Madrid.
