Frenkie de Jong was inevitably asked about team-mate Matthijs de Ligt’s future after the Netherlands’ 3-1 win over England on Thursday and says he hopes he joins him at Barcelona.
The latest reports claim it’s between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain for the Dutchman’s signature and that the French champions may have the edge.
De Jong says he does not know where De Ligt will end up but that they have talked about a possible move to the Spanish champions.
“Of course I would like him to come to Barcelona but we will see what happens. It’s up to him.
”I don’t know, it’s his decision. You have to ask him about it but I hope he comes to Barca.
“Of course we talk about it [De Ligt joining Barca]. It’s not up to me to say what he’s going to do or his thoughts.”

The Netherlands’ win over England means they go on to face Portugal in the Nations League final on Sunday, and De Ligt will then be free to forget about football and focus on where he will play his football next season.
