Barcelona reportedly want to extend Lionel Messi’s contract and plan to open talks with their skipper over a new deal.
According to ESPN, the Spanish champions want him to extend his current contract which runs until 2021.
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is said to be the driving force behind the move and wants to tie Messi down for another four years, by which time he’ll be 36.
Messi signed his latest contract in November 2017 in a move which also saw his buyout clause raised from €300 million to €700m.
The Argentine said at the time his dream is to “finish his career” at the club he joined as a 13-year-old back in 2001.
