Xavi Simons, one of Barcelona’s most talented and highly-rated youngsters, has announced he is leaving the club.
The 16-year-old has posted a message on social media confirming the news, which will be a big blow to the Spanish champions.
Here is what he has had to say:
“I leave a part of me in Barcelona and I will bring a part of Barcelona with me.’
“Today is not easy, as saying goodbye is one of the hardest things in life and today it’s my turn to say goodbye to what has been my home, my family, my life for as long as I can remember. It was a dream come true when I put on my first Barce jersey nine years ago as a pre-benjamin (under 8) player.
“To all of you, I can only say: thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will never forget out time together and will forever cherish the memories. As I am about to start a new and exciting adventure away from Barcelona, this club, its people and its fans will always hold a very special place in my heart.”
And here’s the message in full:
It’s not clear at this stage where Simons is going to, but his agent is Mino Raiola and there are rumors he will be joining Paris Saint-Germain.
Simons has been one of La Masia’s talked about players throughout his career at Barcelona but has now decided the best place to continue is away from the Camp Nou.
