Bayern Munich confirmed on Friday they have agreed a season-long loan with Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho with an option to buy.

The Brazilian is expected in Germany early next week for a medical before completing his move to the Bundesliga champions.

There are still a few details to be ironed out, but Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said the club have “watched him for some time.”

The news brings an end to continued speculation over Coutinho’s future at Barcelona. He will now get the chance to get his career back on track with Bayern after a tough spell at the Camp Nou.

Both Barcelona and Bayern opened their domestic campaigns on Friday night. Coutinho was in the stands to watch Barca go down 1-0 to Athletico Bilbao, while Bayern were held to a 2-2 draw by Hertha Berlin.
