Rafinha will not be leaving Barcelona for Valencia before the close of the transfer window, according to Marcelino.

The Brazilian has been linked with a move to the Mestalla all summer, but the Valencia boss confirmed that the deal is off.

“The club have informed me that the signing of Rafinha hasn’t been approved,” he said.

”I feel like anyone who’s been told something and then it changes. I’ve respected the decisions. We thought we needed an offensive and versatile midfielder.

”It was a necessity since the end of last season; we considered it important for the team to bring in a player like that and we wanted to keep growing.”

There are still some suggestions that Rafinha could seal a late exit. Celta Vigo are the latest club to be linked with the 26-year-old.

RAC1 reckon the club have offered €10 million for Rafinha, while reports in France suggest Marseille could make a late bid.
