Barca narrowly missed out on the Netherlands international in the summer but look set to try again with the Lyon man seemingly a favorite of Ronald Koeman’s.
Yet as well all know Barca are in a really tricky situation and will have to offload players before they can bring in anyone else.
Koeman has a big squad for 2020-21 but there are two players who look to be favorites to depart in order to make room for Memphis.
The first is left-back Junior Firpo who has managed a total of 29 minutes from two substitute appearance so far both of which have come in the Champions League.
Junior simply hasn’t made an impact at Barca since he signed and the arrival of Sergino Dest, who could play on both sides of the defense, may spell the end of his time at the Camp Nou.
Yet’s he’s not the only player who could be on his way. Martin Braithwaite is another player who could be deemed surplus to requirements this winter less than a year after arriving.
Braithwaite’s only scored once for Barca in 16 appearances since his emergency transfer from Leganes and has seen only 38 minutes of action under Koeman in 2020-21.
La Vanguardia report he now has two months to prove himself at Barca. The team have a favorable fixture list, on paper at least, with Cadiz, Osasuna, Ferencvaros, Real Valladolid and Eibar all up before the end of the year.
Braithwaite may see more game time with a packed fixture list and Ansu Fati out injured for four months but it looks like he will need to convince Koeman of his quality if he is stay at Barca.
