The defender’s wages are the problem

Barcelona have reportedly cooled their interest in Bayern Munich defender David Alba due to his wage demands.

The Catalan giants have been linked with the Austria international for some time now, and he’s expected to leave the Allianz Arena in the summer as a free agent.

Yet even though he will be free he could still be out of Barca’s financial reach. Alba is said to earn around €8 million a season currently at Bayern Munich.

He was also offered a contract extension with a pay rise that would have taken his wages closer to €12 million per season but that offer has since been withdrawn.

Salaries are currently a bit of a hot topic at Barca. The club remain in talks with the players about pay-cuts as they bid to reduce their spending to help ease their financial troubles.
