Barcelona’s interim president Carles Tusquets chatted a bit about Lionel Messi this week. Tusquets took over from Josep Maria Bartomeu in October after the 57-year-old resigned.

Tusquets, in an interview this week, spoke about some of the key issues surrounding the club at present and said that he would’ve solved the issue of Messi wanting to leaving in the summer by in fact selling him per his request.

“Economically speaking, I would’ve sold Messi in the summer window,”

“Both in terms of what you save on the wage bill as well as the money you make, it would’ve been desirable.

“But this is something the coaching staff have to consent to and that’s not my place. La Liga are setting salary limits at the moment and this would’ve helped on that front.”

Messi’s future is still pretty unclear at this point. He’s out of contract in the summer and can talk to other clubs from the start of January. Presidential elections are not due to take place until January 24.
