Bayern Munich had interest in Frenkie de Jong last year, it just wasn’t enough interest to get in the transfer ring with pre-pandemic Barcelona.
However, now that Barcelona find themselves in a financial predicament, Bayern are hoping to get back into the Frenkie de Jong business. A report from Mundo Deportivo says that the German giants are keen on making themselves even deeper by pursuing a De Jong move this summer if Barca need to sell.
The financial chaos at Barcelona hasn’t reached catastrophic proportions yet, but it’s close. In October they reported the club’s net debt increased to £440m and they lost £88m in the financial year.
Bayern may hope to capitalize on the financial stress Barca find themselves in. However, I’d be shocked if that stress resulted in selling a player like De Jong.
