Barcelona are reportedly set to exercise an option to extend midfielder Riqui Puig’s contract until June 2023.

The starlet’s current deal expires next summer but the Spanish champions are keen to keep him at the Camp Nou, according to Marca.

The report also reckons Barcelona want Puig to make the step up and become a permanent member of the first-team squad next season.

Puig is said to be keen to stay at the club despite other reports claiming a host of teams are queuing up to take the 20-year-old on loan next season.

Real Betis, Celta Vigo, Granada and Ajax have all been linked with Puig and would be willing to offer regular game time.

Yet Marca reckon now is the time for Puig to “make the jump and show what he can do” at Barcelona.

The report also points out that big-money signings may be difficult to achieve due to the coronavirus pandemic which could see the club trust in their young players.
