Barcelona have reportedly told Emerson they want him to stay at Real Betis for another season to continue his development.
The right-back is co-owned by both clubs and has a contract with the Verdiblancos until the end of June 2021 when Barcelona have an option to sign him for €6m.
There have been rumors Barca could be willing to use him in swap deals this summer, but it seems they are wide of the mark and he’s still in the club’s plans.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Emerson will stay with Betis next season and then join Barcelona for the 2021-22 campaign.
Emerson is said to be pretty happy with the arrangement as he’s settled at Betis and has been a regular for the club this season with three goals and five assists.
The Brazilian has also made it clear how he’s determined to succeed at Barcelona when he finally arrives at the Camp Nou.
He said in April he feels ready to feature for Barca already and revealed that playing for the club is a “dream I’ve had since I was a child.”
