Barcelona will promote centre-back Ronald Araujo to the first team next season rather than bringing in a new defender in the transfer window.
The coronavirus pandemic has affected the club’s transfer plans and means they have now ruled out bringing in another centre-back, according to AS.
Barca simply can’t afford an established defender but are also said to be pretty pleased with Araujo’s development and are willing to give the 21-year-old a chance.
The same can’t be said for Jean-Clair Todibo unfortunately. The report reckons he will not stay at Barcelona and will be used in an “exchange operation.”
Araujo has featured for the first team in 2019-20 but was sent off in the 4-0 win over Sevilla in October after coming on as a substitute.
